A Bitter Compromise (A Sci-fi Short Story) - Thamer International Schools

    By Sameer Al Harbi (12-A),

Portman’s Trading Company, was a leader in off world trading (mostly on the account of it being the only one operating in the Lun system). Fame and glory awaited those who would fly under its colors. Captains would dare treacherous space voyage through hundreds of light years to bring rare goods back home from across the galaxy. Some could visit unseen exotic planets while others could sight-see on earth; all while making huge profits. The truth however as often is, left something to be desired.

  • PICK OF THE MONTH, FEATURING: “LEGEND: THE BEAST”

Legend: The Beast - Thamer International Schools

    By Mohhammed Banaa (7-B)

Once upon a time, there was a city called Heifhoem. It was a serene and flourishing city. The only egregious thing about it was The Beast. The Beast was a monstrous hybrid made up of various apex predators. He had the front legs of a cheetah so he could run unmatched, the mouth of the tiger, and the hind legs of the gazelle. He persistently attacked Heifhoem; therefore, the king of this magnificent city, King Roberto, decided to battle the Beast himself.

  • PICK OF THE MONTH, FEATURING: “THE ELVES AND THE SHOEMAKER”

The Elves and the Shoemaker - Thamer International Schools

    By Daniella Mustafa (6-I)

The basis of the story relates to a poor shoemaker and his wife who need money to pay the rent. The shoemaker gives away the last pair of shoes he has to a needy lady. He has leather to make one more pair of shoes; he cuts out the pieces of leather before going to bed so he can sew them on the morrow. Elves come in the night and make the pair of shoes, which he sells for more than his asking price the next day. He uses that money to pay the rent, buy food and more shoe leather. He also feeds a poor traveller.

PICK OF THE MONTH, The BFG - Thamer International Schools

    By Mera Damiri (9-H)

The BFG (Big Friendly Giant) is a children’s literature book written by the British novelist Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake in 1982. Later in 2016, Steven Spielberg directed and produced a movie based on this fantastical book. The book revolves around the lonely orphan, Sophie who is ready to go to sleep when she hears an obstreperous noise. Frozen in fear while staring at the colossal and abnormal creature with humungous ears and with eyes glistening in the moonlight, she witnessses the monster for the first time.Later in the book, what seems a nightmarish giant, turns out to be affable, amiable, and uneducated. Sophie is taken to the Giant country where they live; however, she learns that these creatures are human eating machines. Fortunately, the BFG only eats snozzcumbers, and it has come to light that the benevolent giant is a dream catcher and destroyer of nightmares.

  • PICK OF THE MONTH, The Broken Land

PICK OF THE MONTH, The Broken Land - Thamer International Schools

    By Eyad Islam (4-A),

60 million years ago, there was a dinosaur called Rino. He was clever, and he could fix anything. He could recycle any item and could also talk in different languages.

Well, for these special qualities, he was called Rexi-fixi. When all the dinosaurs knew that he could fix anything, the problem began. Rino couldn’t control his anger because of the many dinosaurs who came to him. But, on the other hand, he made awesome things. One time, he reshaped a rock to become a bridge across the river. Well, his anger made him stump extremely hard on the ground which almost caused an earthquake. “What have you done!?” a dinosaur reflected. “It’s because of you, idiot!’’ Rino said.

  • PICK OF THE MONTH, The Night Circus Book Review

The Night Circus Book Review - Thamer International Schools

    By Ola Omer (10-G)

“The circus arrives without warning.”The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern has to be one of the most captivating books that I have ever read. The book has an expansive timeline and follows the narrative of two magicians as well as an unspoken rivalry played out over several generations by two delegated pupils, Celia and Marco.

The two characters are bound into a lifelong challenge, the rules of which have never been made evident to them with a timeframe that exceeds any of their wildest thoughts. The challenge comes in the form of a traveling night circus better known as Le Cirque des Reves. Both Marco and Celia have become passionately entangled with the acts and performances involved as well as inevitably with each other’s capabilities. The circus is an everlasting test of trust. Whether they can transcend the fate that has been written for them without annihilating the circus and themselves becomes the novel’s central question.

Jeddah KSA - Thamer International Schools

    By Suha Mirza (11-E),

  • PICK OF THE MONTH: TRAVELOGUE, Miami, FL

Miami Florida - Thamer International Schools

    By Saif Hatim (8-E)

Located in the south tip of Florida, Miami thrives as one of the largest and most popular vacation spot which attracts millions of visitors that add to the city’s population.

To begin with, Miami has its own unique barrier islands that are a major attraction along with their historical hotels and beaches. Little Havana is the heart of history of the country, because of the Cuban invasion in 1960 that changed the entire look of the place to a much more beautiful city. Although it is popular for its Doral golf fields, it has been somehow repurposed as a land for artists and designers that have turned it even more attractive, with art museums and a place for cultural activities.

  • PICK OF THE MONTH: TRAVELOGUE, Paddington Station

TRAVELOGUE, Paddington Station - Thamer International Schools

    By Yousuf Khot (9-B),

As you step your foot at any busy railway station, you witness a sea of people haphazardly rushing from one platform to another. You always find absolute commotion and noise.

From the entrance itself, Paddington Station looks massive and huge. Some tourists with heavy backpacks patiently wait for their trains to arrive. While others are at the cafeteria grabbing a light meal before a long journey. A few office men and women dapperly dressed briskly rushed on platform to be on time for work. Next to the iron statue of Paddington, two little kids frolic around while their parents click their pictures. Tired looking after a long journey, a mother and son probably were eagerly waiting for their relative to pick them up.
