PICK OF THE MONTH, The Night Circus Book Review

The Night Circus Book Review - Thamer International Schools

By Ola Omer (10-G)

“The circus arrives without warning.” The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern has to be one of the most captivating books that I have ever read. The book has an expansive timeline and follows the narrative of two magicians as well as an unspoken rivalry played out over several generations by two delegated pupils, Celia and Marco.

The two characters are bound into a lifelong challenge, the rules of which have never been made evident to them with a timeframe that exceeds any of their wildest thoughts. The challenge comes in the form of a traveling night circus better known as Le Cirque des Reves. Both Marco and Celia have become passionately entangled with the acts and performances involved as well as inevitably with each other’s capabilities. The circus is an everlasting test of trust. Whether they can transcend the fate that has been written for them without annihilating the circus and themselves becomes the novel’s central question.

Erin Morgenstern’s ability to play with the concepts of such stark contrast is mind-blowing and inspiring. The plot uncovers the connection between fantasy and reality, dark and light while portraying a profound image of all the traces of magic we are yet to discover.

This book has left me speechless with every page I read. The beauty I discovered within it despite its apparent darkness resonated deeply within me. Erin Morgenstern’s style is as descriptive as it is witty, and her world is nothing short of enchanting. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the concept of illusion and magic.
