Welcome Back to Middle School (2018-2019)

Welcome Back to Middle School (2018-2019) - Thamer International Schools

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the advent of the 2018-2019 academic school year at T. I. S. Middle Schools! We hope that you have had an enjoyable summer vacation. It is this time of the year that we become energized for the students and staff to return as we continue to prepare for the upcoming year. The T. I. S. Middle Schools’ theme this year will be “H.A.T.S. off to Learning”. This code consists of the following character traits: H-Habits, A-Attitudes, T-Talents and S-Skills. It is our hope that every individual connected to T. I. S. Middle Schools implements these traits throughout the school year and beyond.

They will be posted in the corridors and classes with brief explanations where they can be prominently noticed. As we reveal and promote our theme, our icon will be a variety of hats. The hats will be displayed throughout the buildings with a message attached. It is our goal to use this icon to introduce and reinforce our schools’ mission and vision with topics that will be highlighted throughout the year pertaining to nutrition, health and safety, social and academics. This theme also supports our mission statement which claims to create well-rounded, creative, critical thinkers and leaders.

As in the past, the daily start time at the Middle Schools will be from 7:50 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. Our first day of school will be Sunday, September 02, 2018 and it will be a full day for students. Like last year, the bus loop pick-up and drop-off pattern will be along the front parking lot near the Male Administration. This will allow for other parents to pick up their sons/daughters from the other gates.

We encourage you to attend the “Open House Day” on Thursday, September 06 for Grades 4 to 8, from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. You will be given a clear idea about schools’ policies, procedures, regulations and our updates and this will enlighten you with some information about our schools’ academic year. A brief informational presentation will be specifically directed to parents of the new enrollees and of the fourth graders.

Our main concern in the Middle School is to prepare our students for the future by setting standards of international education. To be able to provide a strong platform for our learners to progress from one stage to the next, we are opening the opportunity for our learners to appear for the Cambridge Checkpoint Exams in Grades 6 and 8, the Map exams in Grades 5 and 7 and the DELF Exam in Grades 7 and 8. During the first week of school, results of MAP, DELF and checkpoint will be handed to those students who have appeared for these exams during the academic year 2017-2018.

Our students’ dress code is consistent as last year, with no changes for 2018-2019. As a reminder, students should wear the regular school uniform on a daily basis and the sport uniform when their school daily schedule shows that they have Physical Education. Both are only available in the school bookstore. Students are not permitted to wear shorts, jeans, flip flops or crocks or any other open-toe shoes. Only plain black shoes are allowed. All garments must be in good condition without any rips or tears. We appreciate parents’ help with upholding our dress code.
