Our daily schedule consists of eight periods and two breaks. At home time, all Upper Primary students will be kept in class till 2:50 p.m., after which they will be dismissed to the playground. Parents need to present the Student's ID Card to the guard at the gate or to the teacher/supervisor for the students to be called from their respective classes. Parents are not allowed inside the school premises at all times. All students are expected to leave the school premises not later than 3:00p.m. Upper Primary students will use Gate # 8 only.

School bus students are escorted safely by their supervisors and teachers to the designated area and dismissed at 2:50 p.m. (with the Senior and Middle Schools students). Compound buses should have a private bus monitor to accompany the students to their buses. If your child leaves with a compound bus, please make sure you assign a bus monitor to be responsible for collecting your child at the gate. (The Student's ID Card needs to be presented.)

Our Programs (Upper Primary School)

Our Programs

The English program consists of Reading Comprehension, Grammar, Phonics, and Writing. Dictation will be assigned a week ahead in the agenda. Students will be tested and graded on the above mentioned subjects and evaluated on Oral Reading, Handwriting and Social studies. Students are expected to be ready for Oral Reading Evaluation at any time after the story is covered in class.

In Math, students understand and use certain strategies to recognize and use numbers, understand and practice mental math, add and subtract two and more digit numbers, and learn multiplication and division. Students will learn about time, data, graphs, fractions, and geometry throughout the academic year.

In Science, students will discover the world of plants, animals, and the environment they are living in. Their knowledge will be enriched through experiments, projects, and research.

In ICT, the students will be learning about MS Word, MS Paint, MS Excel, and “Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing”.

The students will be given practical and written homework. The written homework will be from the ICT booklet and the practical ones will be done on the computer and then either printed or saved on a USB.

Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing is a program that teaches the kids to type without looking at the keyboard. It can be downloaded from the school’s Learning Management System Portal. It is advised to download it for your child and let them practice every now and then to improve their typing skills.

The students should have their books and booklets whenever they have ICT on their schedule.

This year we will be completing several project-based learning activities utilizing the STEM approach to learning. Children are naturally full of curiosity and love to investigate. The components of STEM –Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics – all combine to offer students a vast array of highly engaging learning experiences in which teachers are able to capitalize on a student’s strong desire to learn about the world around him or her.

It is very exciting to have this opportunity to assist your child in developing the skills that will be needed to find answers and solutions for problems unknown to us at this time. The STEM approach to teaching is inquiry-based, which is defined as the process of asking questions and trying to find answers for those questions. The following academic areas will be strengthened through STEM projects:

Science: predicting, observing, recording, and evaluating

Technology: utilizing computers and other technology to solve problems and find answers

Engineering: designing a plan to solve a problem

Mathematics: utilizing math concepts to calculate and solve problems

Families will be asked to collaborate with their children to complete family connection activities that will be sent home to reinforce different STEM activities. Please ask your child to explain the project-based learning activity that was completed that day in class and return the completed family connection page for your child to share in class. Along with the family connections worksheets, we will also occasionally be requesting specific items to be sent with your child to be used to complete our STEM projects. We appreciate your support of our STEM projects throughout the year.

Clubs and activities are an important part of school life. They provide opportunities to enrich children's experiences beyond the curriculum and are an excellent medium to foster good relationships between teachers, tutors and pupils. They develop children's social skills by providing a forum for interaction between pupils of different ages. This year each grade level will have two consecutive periods as club time where they can enjoy a wide variety of activities.
